Websites like hotmail, piratebay, isohunt, tatasky, AOL, etc were not opening and it soon started pissing me off. Tried out a lot of options like
- Changing to Open DNS (208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220)
- Changing to Google DNS (8.8.8.8. & 8.8.4.4)
- Changing settings in the local area network as well as the router configuration page
All these didn't work and I was almost going to format my Windows XP as a random attempt before I actually realized that my Netgear Wi-fi router was giving away the same response to my other clients viz laptop and Samsung Corby. Finally, changing the MTU worked. Here are the following steps:
1. Download a third party S/W titled Dr.TCP from the link - http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
2. Double click on the file DRTCP.exe once installed. Choose the LAN connection from the Combo box - Adapter Settings and provide the MTU value 1462, 1432 or 1400 as shown below:
3. Click Save and then Exit.
4. Now, restart the computer.
As a subscriber of an Australian broadband service provider, I find this post really interesting.
